1st year CDT students finish industry placements

During Year 1 of the CDT programme, students have the opportunity to spend 3 months working in industry. Our 2017 Cohort first year students have recently completed their placements working for either AstraZeneca, Pfizer or GSK. These placements offer an invaluable opportunity to see how scientists work together in an industry setting, a chance to  learn something completely new, as well as to meet and work with many scientists from different departments. The CDT has received enthusiastic feedback from our students about this experience and would like to thank all of the industry supervisors for their time and effort in making our students feel so welcome and for offering this incredible learning experience. We would especially like to thank Eileen McBride, Farhan Alhusban, Paul Giffen, Martin Rowland and Alastair Coupe for organising the placements.

One alumna works for GSK in Japan and another alumna for a pharmaceutical company in Belgium. A further 6 alumni work for the UK industry and 6 for other employers such as MHRA, Schools, the University in a non-academic role and as patent attorney. 10 alumni are in academic roles as senior lecturers, lecturer, and postdoctoral fellows.
